Mother’s Day again.
I wrote a couple of entries ago that I categorise Mother’s Day as one of those special days that has far too much hype surrounding it.
It’s Mother’s Day here in Singapore today and florists, restaurants and retailers everywhere are laughing all the way to the bank in the wake of the deluge of guilty husbands and usually-unappreciative sons and daughters looking to buy Mom some love. I actually spotted at least three men toting cookie-cutter $50 bouquets at a mall, and several kids rushing around in a last-minute gift-buying frenzy. Quite amusing, really.
How did I spend my Mother’s Day? In church for most of the morning, and then taking my usual 3-hour long afternoon siesta. In the evening there was an unplanned family dinner at the in-laws’, to sort of celebrate. My sister-in-law was surprised that I find Mother’s Day so unnecessary, probably because she’s the kind of person who’d celebrate the anniversary of her baby’s first tooth cutting through. But I suppose we’re all wired differently when it comes to sentimentalism.
So how did you spend Mother’s Day?
