How could they not know?
A few days ago, there was an article in our local paper about a 15-year old girl who realised she was pregnant only as she was giving birth in the ambulance en route to the hospital after she complained of severe “abdominal pain” while in school.
Statutory rape aside, I find it difficult to believe any woman could go for nine months without a period without realising she’s pregnant - until it’s time for the baby to be born. Doesn’t a swelling tummy serve as indication enough of pregnancy?
Ananova’s story about a woman in England who didn’t realise she was pregnant, much less that she was pregnant with twins, just boggles the mind.

In university I knew a couple who became parents as a complete and total surprise over Christmas Vacation.
She had light and irregular periods to start with and that continued throughout the pregnancy. She felt tired and gained 15 pounds, but thought that it was from going to school full time, working part time (full time during the Christmas rush), and eating badly. They thought labour was an apendicitis and then, that it must be a miscarriage in the fourth month, and then a 7.5 lb baby was born. It really is a one in a million thing, but it happens.
