Rant on the Vermont Nurse In
I am a long-time nurser and I can’t help but want to punch that flight attendant in the eye. You mean I can walk around with my thong hanging out, with my shirt cut down to here, expose the world to nipple slips (google it) and NEVER get in trouble with the law, but if I want to nurse my baby I should be forced to use a blanket or get thrown off of a plane? What is wrong with this world???
1. Breastfeeding is legal in every state (and even protected by law in more than a dozen states including Vermont).
2. Have you ever tried to cover a toddler while they nurse?
In my experience (and I’ve been told to stop) it’s rarely men who have a problem with your nursing, but other women are usually the ones who are SO offended by it that they’d rather throw you off of a plane than look at the back of a baby’s head.
Most of us have been mortified when the baby pulls away and you see the top of a breast. We don’t like it either. But babies may not agree to be stuck under a blanket. And don’t even tell me to go feed my baby in the bathroom. I wouldn’t eat my dinner in there and NO way am I exposing a fragile child to EATING in a dirty bathroom.
Sorry, had to rant on this. Anyone else want to chime in? LOL

When I was a teenager I was in the mall one day and a woman was walking around with a nursing baby. I could see a whole lot. Then one day my husband was at a family restaurant and a woman pulled up her shirt, let the flap down on her bra (totally exposing her whole breast), and then she picked the baby up from its carseat and it latch on. I guess those are the kind of people that have made it hard for everyone else. Asking someone not to nurse on an airplane is ridiculous!!! I’ve seen more at family restaurants with women hanging out all over the place. And you’re right about the thong thing. Disgusting! I will definitely have to google the nipple slips. I am naive to that kind of stuff.

I don’t really mind seeing an boob every once in a while when it’s in a place where it’s natural, as in nursing. I think we fear nudity often, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with a boob in context with nursing. On the whole, I can count 4 times I’ve seen a boob in context with nursing in public (and that is in 8 years involvement w/La Leche League). I can’t count on 10 hands the number of bathing suits at the beach or halters at the mall that show me more…
Even if people are open with their nursing, they’re within their rights to do so. Putting a baby on the breast is often difficult cause they’re squirmy and they cry, and if you can do it w/o being stressed out, more power to you. So we see a breast. We’ll live… LOL No harm done.

hi, i remember the controversy behind the parents magazine with the baby breastfeeding. people can walk aroudn naked but god forbid we breastfeed.
i live in costa rica right now and there’s a huge breast feeding campaign here to promote it with ads all over the place.
