Coveting Organization

by robyn on December 6th, 2006

Being organized fully is a goal I’ve chased since my teen years. However, I’ve yet to achieve the ideal I am looking to achieve (and maintain). With life SO busy though, I keep chugging along, hoping to come up with some sort of manageable schedule and plan.

I saw a post that described a very smart way to use whiteboards. I’m going this weekend to buy them so I can see if it works as well for me as it did for the author. I also saw this smart writeup on the usable home that inspired me.

Any tips from readers?

Being organized is one of my goals too. It is a constant burden in my life. With blogging, working at the preschool, volunteering at church, and the kids, I just can’t seem to find the time to take care of the clutter. Plus, I have a toddler running around, so it seems everything gets piled on the kitchen counter in order to keep him out of it. You know all about these aggravations, though.

We ended up taking down our whiteboard calendars because of nosey relatives and friends. Why are you meeting with the bank again? What’s that doctor’s appointment for, didn’t you just see him last month? You pay someone to groom your dog? True story .

Still working on the perfect method, but so far the personal planners are working better for us with reminders written on a fridge whiteboard the night before (appt @ 2pm, etc.). That way our whole life isn’t on display at any one time ;).

I know about nosiness. I sometimes have important bills and such on the refrigerator clip. Sometimes I have to take those down.

I love Whiteboards! We use one large one in the kitchen that holds general reminders (ROTC Practice, Tae Kwon Do Practices, Field Trips, I need a bag lunch,…etc)

It works really well since the kitchen is the heart and soul of our house. I also have a palm pilot that I use daily. :)

As soon as you find the tool that works well for you, it will all fall into place.

I use Outlook and my Inbox in addition to the calender in it and sync it to my Treo (windows mobile). It’s just not working yet for me though.

Could be ME though and not the tools LOL

I think everyone who has ever had a child is trying to get more organized. I’ve been doing the FLY lady thing and it works for me. I use her calendar and even my husband loves it.
