Inside Motherhood

Just a moment of peace

by Sherry on July 4th, 2007

I’ve said this at least a thousand times in my life, but I swear that if I ever strike it rich I am getting a house with a secret bunker in it. It will have a hidden door at the back of my closet, but rather than having that door lead to Narnia, it will lead to my own private bathroom.

And in that bathroom, when I place my bottom on the toilet seat, I will not have cats rubbing my legs, my toddler standing on a stool at the sink and screeching “teef! TEEF!” (”I would like to brush my teeth, Mother”), my pre-schooler asking me questions from down the hall and repeating herself until I shout back an answer. I will not have to draw on a Magna Doodle, or flip pages in a Barney book, or sing the Backpack song from Dora while I wipe myself.

No, I will sit in my hidden bunker bathroom and there will be peace and quiet and privacy and no one will ever know where I am.

What? Did I have a privacy-free day in my bathroom today? Why ever do you ask?
