Such a loss

by Sherry on September 10th, 2007

A Wrinkle In TimeChildren have lost a hero they may not even know of yet, now that Madeleine L’Engle has passed away at the age of 88. She was such a wonderful writer, spinning incredible worlds for children to enjoy. I actually need to buy myself a new copy of A Wrinkle in Time because I still have the same copy I read as a child and it’s been read and re-read so many times that the spine is cracked and half the pages are loose. I’m afraid I might even be missing a page, though I was always careful not to lose any of them.

Her words were the first I read that fell into the fantasy or sci-fi genre and the world that she created was so real to me as I devoured the pages. To this day I still count Meg as one of my all-time favorite literary characters, and I still love the illustrated explanation of what a Tesseract is.

I have many books that I long to share with my girls when they get older, and her books are at the top of the list. Some day they will be ready for long chapter books and I can’t wait to crack open A Wrinkle in Time and share a wonderful world with them.
