Inside Motherhood

Christmas, part one and two

by Sherry on December 26th, 2007

Yesterday was the best Christmas we’ve had since our oldest was born. In other years we struggled financially and couldn’t make it quite like we wanted (not that we got them thousands of dollars worth of shiny stuff). This year I was excited about every single thing we got for them. So far the biggest hit for each was the camera for my oldest and the Little People house for my toddler, but I think she’ll flip when we assemble the train table - we couldn’t fit that into our busy schedule, plus I didn’t want to deal with screws and small assembly pieces with everything else around lest something crucial got thrown out accidentally.

We spent the morning at home and went to visit my in-laws for Christmas afternoon and dinner. They got more lovely gifts over there and had a wonderful time. When we came home, my little one was asleep in five minutes flat, and my oldest was thrilled to go to sleep in her tent from Santa in her room instead of her bed.

Meanwhile, my husband and I spent the evening watching a movie together which is our own Christmas night tradition.

Today we’ve kept things quiet so far and then after lunch we’ll be heading to see my own parents at their place for more holiday cheer and a nice spaghetti dinner. They live further away (about a half hour drive as opposed to three minutes for visiting the in-laws) so we’ll have to leave a little earlier to avoid having my little one fall asleep on the way home and messing up her sleep schedule (not that I’m super militant, just that she sets her own sleep schedule and she will conk out if we’re driving at her usual bedtime), but it willl be nice just to be there.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas or a fantastic Tuesday if you don’t celebrate!
