I can’t wait for Spring
Okay, I’m seriously tired of Winter now. Which is unfortunate since I live in Montreal and we can expect Winter to extend into April.
It’s not that Winter isn’t pretty and magical because it is, at least until the traffic turns the snow brown and slushy and disgusting. It’s just exhausting. Going out to play in the Spring, Summer, and Fall is easy. It requires making sure everyone has peed/been changed into a dry diaper, grabbing some water, maybe a snack, possibly a coat depending on the weather, and depending on where you’re going you might want a few toys. I generally keep all our park toys in a bag so I just have to grab it on the way out. Basically, from the time we decide to go out until we actually lock the door behind us, we might pass ten minutes of prep time.
In the Winter? Ha! In addition to peeing, diapers, water, and etceteras, we have to do much more than grab a coat or sweater. There are sweaters and snowsuits and hats and mitts and scarves to put on. Getting two kids dressed and then readying myself, it can take about 20 minutes or more just to get out the damn door. It’s not quite as bad if I’m only going out with one of them but two is exhausting.
It doesn’t help that I am not a fan of snow and cold. I like it when it snows if my fridge is full and I don’t have anywhere to go, but being out in it is not my favorite activity. I love to be outside in the nice weather and can easily go out from the morning until the evening - I have fond memories from last summer of spending the entire day at the nature park and twice spending two straight days on the soccer field.
I was out today though. My oldest went to visit her grandparents, so to cheer up my little one, I took her for a nice walk for about an hour. She threw snowballs, went down a snow-covered slide at the park, and cheered on a street hockey game. It wasn’t so bad after all.
But I still can’t wait for the final thaw.
