Odd favorite things to watch?
I know some people don’t like their children to watch any television or movies, and I respect that, but we’re big fans of media in moderation (i.e., no all day TV unless someone is really sick and lying on the couch). I think there are a lot of typical things that kids like - many kids love Disney movies (why oh why does the mother always die? What did old Walt have against his mother?!). Despite parental horror, many enjoy Barney. My kids both like Max and Ruby and I would like to single-handedly remove that show from all airwaves.

But once in awhile there are things that are surprising. For instance, my two-year-old LOVES the 1993 movie Free Willy. She loves the orca, loves the scenes where the young kid is helping train him, and she is over the moon during the whole sequence where they work to set Willy free. My five-year-old enjoys it, but I’d expect that more. It’s odd to me that a movie geared towards much older kids, featuring no animation at all would captivate someone so young.
Do your kids enjoy watching (or listening to) something that surprises you?

So true! I cant believe your two year old will sit still long enough to watch Free Willy! My kids love Max and Ruby too, Curious George is another favorite. I just started a new blogging website similar to yours about motherhood and family life. I love your site and I think my readers would too. Can I have your permission to post a link to your page on my website? My web address is: on-the-edge-mom.com if you want to view it and post a link to my site for your readers as well, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank You!

My 4 year old son has loved watching Wheel of Fortune for as long as I can remember! Even though he now knows the name of the show is Wheel of Fortune he still asks “Is it letter time?” nearly every night after dinner! :) It’s silly but I do think it helped him learn his letters!
