The perils of kids

by Sherry on March 13th, 2008

So my daughter has been home all week. We took her to the clinic today and while it’s nothing serious (and the doctor didn’t even want to prescribe antibiotics which was fine with me), it was a little virus and he recommended that we keep her home tomorrow as well. An entire week off school, she’ll be happy to go see her friends on Monday!

Tonight she was mostly better, her fever broke at least, but her throat was very sore. I gave her a cough drop and a bit of medicine and she’s finally sleeping, so hopefully staying home tomorrow and then having a weekend will put her in prime shape to go back on Monday. Thank goodness it’s only Kindergarten so she’s not missing a week of Algebra or anything. We kept her going too, when she was feeling okay, by doing some similar things to regular school routines - reading, writing, playing show and tell, that sort of thing.

The downfall is that while I see the light at the end of the tunnel for her sickness, my husband has felt nauseated all day and is currently coughing down the hall in his computer room/studio and I’m sitting here in the living room, wrapped in a blanket because I’m cold and feeling a little weak. I’d just go to bed but with my daughter being under the weather, my work hasn’t been happening during the day so I have a bunch of deadlines to take care of tonight. Hopefully we can all sleep in a bit tomorrow - or else I’ll have to take a nap with my little one in the late morning.

That’s one thing the baby books never told me - that I’d get sick eight hundred times a year right along with my kids!
