Early mornings
Mornings. Ohhh, mornings.

I think the thing that drives me craziest of all in the mornings is the difference between my oldest during the week and on the weekend. On a school day I have to get her up at 6:30 am. We have to leave by 7:30 and believe me we need that whole hour for her to get ready because she is the slowest person on the entire planet (and that’s at any time of day, not just sluggish mornings). It takes a good ten minutes to drag her out of bed, I have to constantly remind her to eat or she’ll stare out the window, and I have to follow her around to get her to do her teeth, get dressed, and get out the door. It’s exhausting. No wonder the first thing I do when I get back in the front door is walk into the kitchen and prepare my coffee!
However, fast forward to the weekend and I’m lucky if she’ll sleep an extra hour. She’s often up by 7 am on weekends even though we have nowhere to be, and my lord, is she ever wide awake and ready to go on those days.
It seems that if only I could let her sleep an extra 20 or 30 minutes during the week, she’d be better able to wake up and face the day ahead of her. Unfortunately, her school starts (and then finishes) early so it’s just not an option unless they want to implement pajama day as a regular feature.
She loves school, it’s not reluctance that makes her so hard to manage in the mornings. At least I know that, so I know I’m not dragging her off to some kind of horror. Still, I just know the entire summer is going to be full of early mornings while I wonder why she’s so eager to get up when there’s nowhere special to go first thing in the morning.
(I can’t tell you how much *I* would love to sleep an extra half hour on school days too. YAWN.)

My son is almost 2 and has to be up on weekdays at 7:00 am. I drop him off my mother in law’s house before I am off to work. I hate having to wake him from sleep, but I sometimes have to. On weekends I pray each night before I go to bed he isn’t up before I am. I can’t wait until he figures out weekends are for sleeping in.
