The Long Day

Shopping for school clothes and other necessities makes me want to curl up in a ball in the corner and whimper for a while.
My feet hurt, my ears are ringing and my debit card is decidedly pinched. Though my kids are generally good about boring tasks even they could only take so much and were visibly relieved when it wasn’t their turn to try on a pair of shoes or a shirt for the hundredth time.
I’m sure the whole task is made harder by the fact that we mostly stick to the clearance racks which usually takes more time by default because you have to search well for something that’s both cute and cheap, something that gets harder and harder the older my girls get.
It’s a good thing I don’t have to do it for another three months, when things start cooling down around here. At least the shoes should last past that!

On the one hand, it’s easier for us because of our school’s dress code. I know exactly what I’m getting, we buy the George brand of “uniforms” from WalMart.
But on the other hand, apparently everyone else beat us to it because we had to do a lot of rooting around to find the right size. We managed to get the very last of her size in everything, we were so lucky!
I’m trying not to think about the school supplies that we have to get next week. Sigh.
